I’m a gypsy and people always think we’re rich and drive Rolls Royces but that couldn’t be further from the truth

IT is easy to assume the grass is greener elsewhere, but this isn’t always the case.

One woman has revealed that her gypsy lifestyle isn’t as glamourous as people think – with her revealing that £20 makes her feel rich.

If who’ve watched documentaries about lavish weddings and mega-wealthy boxer Tyson Fury, you might assume that most travellers have a very luxurious life.

Whilst it might look glamourous to outsiders, the reality is very different for those within the community.

Having grown up in the marginalised group, influencer Charlotte Ann has been using Tiktok to dispel many of the myths county folk (non-gypsies) have.

Using her platform as a force for change, the content creator has gained almost 160,000 followers with her regular videos about cultural differences.

In fact, she is so keen to challenge the stereotypes that she recently stopped to film a video in a supermarket car park.

Poking fun at the belief, the Tiktok star gestured to a Rolls Royce and joked: “What people think you drive when you tell them you are a gypsy.”

Cheekily, she then pointed to a standard family car and said: “Versus what we actually drive up and down in.”

Like most of us at the moment, the influencer admitted that she’d be happy with a little extra cash – especially with the cost of living constantly increasing.

“I don’t know where this idea came from that travellers and gypsies have a lot of money, maybe some do,” she told her followers, adding: “But I’m so poor, if I get £20 I think I’m rich.”

Not content with making her point, the influencer then held up her crocs and admitted to fans that was her ‘mode of transportation’.

“I don’t even have a license,” Charlotte laughed, as she struggled to put her shoe back on in the carpark.

Whilst the tongue-in-cheek Tiktok poked fun at people’s assumptions, there was a serious point behind her video.

Despite increasing work between the community and outsiders, there are still deeply negative stereotypes that exist about gypsies.

Fed of hearing about their supposed lack of taxes and work, Charlotte told her followers: “I don’t where this has come from, that travellers are so rich because they don’t pay their taxes…I also pay my taxes [and] live in Oxfam.”

It’s not the first time the content creator has hit back at the harmful myth, with her previously revealing that she worked full time in the health and social sector.

She also insisted that most gypsy women had worked for centuries, so they could afford essentials like everyone else.

In another pointed video, she told viewers: “The concept of work is not a modern aspect of the traveller and gypsy community – it’s been going on since time began, with the women.”

The 30-year-old is also unmarried and relies on her own income to support her so-called ‘bouje’ lifestyle.

She even encouraged others to do the same in another viral clip, saying: “I’m at home living a very good life, and one day, if there’s a man good enough to get Queen Boujie and put a ring on it, it’ll happen.

“But until that day, I’m going to live my best life, and I encourage you to do the same”.

We couldn’t agree more Charlotte.
