A MOTHER has left people stunned after revealing that she charges her daughter rent.
Kat Clark, a mum-of-two from the Gold Coast in Queensland, explained that she makes her oldest child, Latisha, 20, pay her way to live at home.
The Australian influencer left social media users open-mouthed, and one nasty troll claimed that her actions were ‘so embarrassing’.
But Kat clearly wasn’t fussed by the rude remark, as she revealed that she is in fact teaching her daughter about the real world.
The 37-year-old shared a clip online to set the record straight, as she responded to a nasty comment that read ‘Bro what, what type of mum makes her daughter pay rent, that’s so embarrassing.’
In response, Kat posted her clip with the caption ‘Me. I’m the type of mum that does that.’
She then clapped back at the keyboard warrior and said: “Point one, shut up. Literally shut up.
“I have had so many negative comments about me charging Latisha rent and I don’t want to hear it.”
I feel like I’m setting her up for success

Kat explained that her daughter pays the equivalent of just £26 a week.
Not only this, but rather than pocket the money, Kat shared that she actually puts the cash into a specific bank account for her youngster.
She added: “It goes into an investment fund, so that when she’s old enough to move out or when she wants to buy her first house or her first apartment, she’s going to have money there.”
Kat then shared a screenshot of her daughter’s bank account, as she confirmed: “I feel like I’m setting her up for success, while at the same time, teaching her about the real world, because it ain’t free to live.”
SOCIAL MEDIA SUPPORT
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @katclark, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly gone viral and racked up 275,500 likes and almost 11,000 comments.
Social media users flocked to the comments to support the mother and praise her savvy decision.

A Mother’s View On Charging Kids Rent
SARAH Barns, Associate Editor and mum-of-two, shared her thoughts on charging kids rent…
While my pre-school kids’ current biggest outgoings are cheesy pasta and a Disney+ subscription, I am quite happy to foot the bill.
But as they get older I think it makes financial sense – for both of us – to charge them rent.
Not only will they be learning valuable life lessons – you have to contribute and pay your way – but they’ll also be helping me to ease the burden of increasingly expensive food, energy and petrol bills.
While I’d be unlikely to ever charge them the going rate – the average rent in London is now an eye-watering £2,121 per month – getting them to contribute a couple of hundred quid seems fair.
PEOPLE SPEAK OUT
At the same time, many other people explained that their parents too made them pay rent whilst living at home.
One woman revealed: “My parents did this and I’m so thankful.”
I’m grateful my parents charged me when I was younger because it taught me that nothing is free

Someone else explained: “I pay my mum board. It helps her pay the bills to keep the roof over our heads.
“Also a lot cheaper than renting elsewhere. Has taught me a lot.”
Whilst another chimed in: “I’m 39 years old and I’m grateful my parents charged me when I was younger because it taught me that nothing is free!! Good work mum! You’re amazing!”
