Given the general dysfunction that has plagued their DC movies for the better part of a decade, Warner Bros. is wisely prioritizing production on Matt Reeves’ sequel to The Batman, which is set to release in 2025, meaning production will likely begin in the new year.
According to a prominent scooper on Twitter — who, to be fair, has gotten both plenty right and wrong over the years — The Batman Part II will feature numerous villains, such as Hush, Professor Pyg, Scarecrow, and Clayface. As for how large their roles in the film will be, that remains unclear.
Fans of The Batman have been speculating that Hush would appear in the sequel after what seemed to be an easter egg referencing the character that appeared in Matt Reeves’ hit 2022 film.
During a scene in the second half of the film, Riddler broadcasts a video about the Wayne family, claiming that Bruce’s father Thomas had a journalist named Edward Elliot murdered. In the comics, Edward Elliot is the name of Thomas Elliot’s, a.k.a Hush, great-grandfather.
Furthermore, at one point in the Riddler’s message, the word HUSH is written across Thomas Wayne.
In addition to the above members of the Dark Knight’s infamous rogues gallery, there’s also the possibility that Barry Keoghan’s Joker, who had a brief cameo in The Batman, could appear. Riddler, who largely succeeded with his plan to cripple Gotham City at the end of The Batman, also can’t be ruled out of making an appearance.
Colin Farrell’s Penguin, who will feature in his own MAX series next year, will also likely have a part to play in the future of the cinematic series.
2025 is set to be a big year for Warner Bros. as they’ll not only be releasing the sequel to The Batman but will also be launching their new DC franchise, the DCU, with the release of James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy in July of 2025.
