Former Daily Show correspondent Hasan Minhaj has reportedly emerged as the favorite to replace Trevor Noah as the next host of the late-night program, Variety reports.
Comedy Central hasn’t finalized its choice for a successor. Still, Minhaj would make for a reasonable new lead anchor, given that he worked on the program for four years between 2014 and 2018 before hosting his own political comedy series, Patriot Act, for Netflix. Earlier this year, he told Variety he would be open to taking over for Noah, who hosted The Daily Show from 2015 to 2022 after Jon Stewart’s departure.
“I’m definitely open to the conversation,” Minhaj said. “It’s also a family conversation now. It’s a very different conversation then when I first got hired at the show when I was 29. My life is in a very different place. And so that’s a bigger life/family convo. It changes a lot of things.”
Minhaj continued, “It’s an all encompassing, all consuming thing. And other people have to live with the consequences of what I say. And I just want to make sure everybody, if that were to ever come to fruition, ‘hey, are we all on board with this?’”
Noah announced his departure from The Daily Show last September, revealing his plans to get back to touring as a standup comedian. Since then, Comedy Central has enlisted comedians like Chelsea Handler, Sarah Silverman, and Minhaj himself to host the beloved program as guests.
