On his 58th birthday, Adam Sandler confirmed that Happy Gilmore 2 has officially begun production.
In an Instagram post, the actor and comedian shared a photo of the Boston Bruins jersey he famously wore in the first film. “It ain’t over. The way I see it… we’ve only just begun,” he captioned the post, once again referencing the original movie.
Sandler previously revealed that Happy Gilmore 2 would film in New Jersey beginning in September. “It’s good. We worked hard on the script. We didn’t want to let anyone down. We came up with an idea — we wrote our asses off,” he said during an appearance on The Tonight Show in August.
Alongside Sandler, original Happy Gilmore cast member Christopher McDonald, a.k.a. Shooter McGavin, is expected to appear in the sequel. A number of professional golfers will also make cameos in the movie, as will NFL star Travis Kelce. Kyle Newacheck (Workaholics, What We Do in the Shadows) is directing.
A release date for Happy Gilmore 2 has not yet been announced, but it will be distributed by Netflix.
The original Happy Gilmore, which was released in 1996, is currently available to stream on Peacock.
