Gigi Perez and Hozier sound great together. The 25-year-old singer-songwriter joined the 35-year-old folk legend on stage at Fenway Park for an incredible duet of ‘Work Song.’
These two need to get in the studio together!!
Hozier, who needs no further introduction at this point in his well-establish music career, is right in the middle of his UNREAL UNEARTH: UNENDING tour. He will spend two nights in Boston at one of the most historic stadiums in sports. Night one featured the following setlist:
- Nobody’s Soldier
- Jackie and Wilson
- Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene
- Dinner & Diatribes
- Would That I
- Eat Your Young
- Like Real People Do
- De Selby (Part 1)
- De Selby (Part 2)
- Francesca
- It Will Come Back
- Too Sweet
- Someone New
- Almost (Sweet Music)
- Movement
- Take Me To Church
Hozier also paid homage to his Irish roots with a cover of Van Morrison’s ‘Sweet Thing.’ It was his first time performing the song live!
As you could imagine, fans were disappointed not to hear Hozier sing ‘Work Song’ during his initial set— but they got something even better. Gigi Perez hopped on the track during the encore.
Perez is an artist on the front-end of a meteoric rise. The 25-year-old gained prominence in large part through TikTok. Her songs ‘Celene’ and ‘Sometimes (Backwood)’ were the first to pop on any level. It was ‘Sailor Song’ that later exploded after she left Interscope Records. The lead single of her latest album peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the charts in Ireland and the UK.
She has more than 27 million monthly listeners on Spotify. ‘Sailor Song’ has been streamed more than one billion times!
All of this goes to say that Gigi Perez is going to be a very big deal if she is not already of that status. Her performance of her biggest hit as the opener for Hozier at Fenway Park lived up to the expectations.
She later returned to the stage for ‘Work Song.’ Perez sounded great.
Her vocals sounded even better in harmony with Hozier.
Fans are clamoring for Gigi Perez to hop in the studio with Hozier and record a new version of ‘Work Song’ together. Their unique, individual voices really do come together as one! I really hope to see more duets between these two throughout the rest of the tour.
