Gigi Hadid dazzled in gold at the Met Gala on Monday, just days after ringing in her 30th birthday.
The supermodel, who was styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, wore a custom Miu Miu gown for the occasion. Hadid said the gorgeous dress paid homage to the groundbreaking Black fashion designer Zelda Wynn Valdes.
“It’s a celebration of Zelda Wynn Valdes, who was a fashion designer in the late ’40s,” Hadid said on Vogue’s livestream on Monday. “She was trained by her uncle in his men’s tailoring shop and went on to open her own store in Washington Heights.”
Valdez made waves for dressing Black celebrities like Ella Fitzgerald, Eartha Kitt, Dorothy Dandridge and Josephine Baker.

The gala’s theme this year is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” with a focus on Black dandyism.
Vogue described the dress code for tonight as “tailored for you” and “a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear.”
The magazine added that the dress code is “purposefully designed to provide guidance and invite creative interpretation.”
Actor Colman Domingo, F1 superstar Lewis Hamilton, rapper A$AP Rocky and producer Pharrell Williams are co-chairing the event, alongside Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue.

Over the weekend, Hadid posted about celebrating her 30th birthday on Instagram.
“I feel so lucky to be 30! I feel so lucky for every high and low- for all the lessons and gifts both have brought me. To get to feel it all!” she wrote. “I’m so lucky to be a mom, friend, partner, sister, daughter, colleague to some of the most unbelievable humans!!”
Also in the carousel of photos, she made things Instagram-official with her boyfriend, actor Bradley Cooper. The two were first linked in October 2023.
