Hafthor Bjornsson has officially broken the deadlift world record with a massive 505kg lift, setting a new benchmark in competitive strength sports.
The lift took place at the Eisenhart Black Competition in Bavaria, Germany. Bjornsson used a deadlift suit and lifting straps during the attempt, which was sanctioned under strongman rules.
This surpasses his previous 501kg lift from 2020 and beats Eddie Hall’s long-standing 500kg record set in 2016.
Eddie Hall responds after record falls
Following the lift, Eddie Hall posted a public message congratulating Bjornsson, saying, “Massive respect to Thor for making history and setting the official world record at 505kg. That’s one hell of a pull.”
Bjornsson and Hall were once fierce rivals, even facing off in a boxing match in 2022. Their feud has cooled in recent years, and Hall’s message marked a shift toward mutual respect.
Bjornsson, now 36, confirmed that he will compete again at the 2025 World Deadlift Championships in September. He has not ruled out attempting to break his own record again.
