Just after midnight on Sunday, Duff posted a photo to Instagram of his gauze-wrapped hand.

In the caption, the pastry chef revealed he was in a car accident that injured his hand, which, he noted, is his main piece of equipment for his baking.

“On my way home from the airport I was thinking about what kind of cake I was going to make for my daughter’s birthday,” he wrote. “Next thing I knew I bleeding and surrounded by airbags.”

“A drunk driver had swerved into my lane on a windy country road,” the Food Network star continued.

“After doing a systems check and finding that my only injury was to my hand, I thanked my lucky stars that I’d still be there to celebrate her third birthday even if I couldn’t make her cake.”

He promised fans that he’s doing fine but is going to have a “long road to recovery.”

“For someone like me who makes a living with my hands you can imagine that this is no joke,” Duff added.

The TV star concluded his post by reminding his followers that “there’s no excuse for driving drunk.”
