Phil Lesh, Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy and Nels Cline Announce “Philco” Set at Chicago Festival

Sacred Rose Festival 2022

Sacred Rose is a music festival taking place from August 26-28 at Chicagoland’s Seatgeek Stadium. Today, it’s been announced that Grateful Dead icon Phil Lesh will headline. The Phil Lesh & Friends lineup for the show includes Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy and Nels Cline, and the set is being billed as a one-off show under the name Philco. Also performing with Lesh are Jeff Chimenti, Karl Denson, John Molo, Stu Allen, Grahame Lesh, and Elliott Peck.

“Nels and I are honored to be asked to join Phil and Friends for Sacred Rose,” Tweedy said in a statement. There has been so much about Phil and the Dead to be inspired by over the years, from their longtime musical brotherhood to their wonderful and incomparable music, to their relentless touring and longevity. But perhaps the biggest inspiration is their dedication to the community that has grown up around them. This is a trait that we in Wilco deeply appreciate and have aimed to emulate over the years. There’s nothing better than playing music with your friends, for your friends.”

Philco will not mark the first time Wilco and the Dead have collided: The band’s cover of “St. Stephen,” alongside Bob Weir, appeared on the 2016 Red Hot compilation Day of the Dead. Wilco’s new album Cruel Country was just released.
