Nick Hakim Announces New Album Cometa, Shares New Song “Happen”: Listen

Nick Hakim: Cometa

Nick Hakim is releasing a new album later this year. Cometa, the follow-up to last year’s Small Things, will be released on October 21 via ATO. Hakim has also shared a new single called “Happen,” which features Alex G on piano and Mark Ronson and Andrew Bird collaborator Abe Rounds on drums. Watch the new video for “Happen” below.

Directed by Johan Carlsson, the “Happen” visual was filmed in Stockholm at Studio 24. In a statement, Carlsson explained:

The idea for the video is very simple, we see people on a subway, all busy with their different lives, some are in great spirits and some in deep thoughts maybe because of trouble at work or in their personal life. Sometimes when you’re in a public space you’re not interested in your fellow human beings at all and sometimes looking at them is so interesting that you can’t stop. I hope this video can be an example of when people are interesting to look at, in a way that helps you reflect on your own life. I think Nick’s music is fantastic and has a cinematic and visual quality I hope comes through in the video.

Cometa follows Hakim’s earlier albums Small Things and Will This Make Me Good. The new LP, which takes its name from the Spanish word for “kite,” was recorded in various homes and studios in California, Texas, North Carolina, and New York. In a statement, Hakim described the release as a collection of love songs. “The key is to find that extremity of love for yourself,” he said. “It’s about growing into someone you want to be; it’s about finding pure love within yourself when the world around us seems to be crumbling.”
