Empress Of—the project of Los Angeles–based artist Lorely Rodriguez—has announced a new album. For Your Consideration, her follow-up to 2020’s I’m Your Empress Of, arrives March 22 via Giant Music. Today, Empress Of has shared her latest single, “What’s Love,” featuring fellow Angelenos Muna. Check it out below and scroll down for the LP tracklist and artwork.
“What’s Love” follows Empress Of’s recent songs “Femenine” and “Kiss Me,” latter of which features Rina Sawayama. Both tracks are on For Your Consideration, a Spanish- and English-language album that was partly inspired by Hollywood. “I was in love with a director and he was announcing his ‘For Your Consideration’ campaign for the Oscars,” Empress Of said. “He took me up on a hill and said he was emotionally unavailable and he kind of broke my heart. I went into the studio that day and we wrote a song called ‘For Your Consideration’ that reflects on glam and Hollywood. That was the gateway for the album and it gave me the opportunity to explore broader themes.”
Empress Of, who executive produced For Your Consideration, wrote the album in Los Angeles, Miami, and Montreal, and worked with a number of songwriters and producers, including Nick León, Billboard, Valley Girls, Cecile Believe, and Umru. Her last collection of songs, the Save Me EP, came out in 2022.
