Today, 9th March, we’ve been treated to a brand new State of Play from Sony.

Announced only the day before, the latest PlayStation State of Play promised “new reveals and eye-catching updates for PS4 and PS5 titles”. Sony had also said it will have a special focus on games from Japanese publishers.

With the State of Play airing at 10pm GMT, we’ve now had our eyes on it and can reveal everything that was shown off. Keep on reading to see the announcements and updates that you missed.

Exoprimal

A game where dinosaurs fall from the sky and you fight ’em off in an ex-suit? Yeah, count us in. This is Exoprimal from Capcom, and it looks absolutely bonkers. It’s coming to PS4 and PS5 in 2023.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

Bethesda’s Ghostwire: Tokyo is only  a couple of weeks away, so this will probably be the last major showing it gets before its launch trailer. The new glimpse showed us a mixture of combat, from motorbike riding, combat and freerunning. It looks mightily freaky, and we’re looking forward to getting our hands on it soon. It’s out on 25th March.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

Here’s another game that’s just days away. Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is out next week, but a demo is available from today on the PS4 and PS5 store. Give it a try.

Forspoken

With Forspoken recently being delayed until later in the year, we didn’t expect to see an update so soon. But here’s a brand new trailer for Square Enix’s fantasy adventure, showing combat, traversal, and a taste of just how big and beautiful its world is going to look. We’re excited for this one, and honestly, we’re glad the developers are taking more time for it to be as good as it possibly can be. Protagonist Frey looks badass and we can’t wait to play as her.

Gundam Evolution

Gundam Evolution is a multiplayer mech brawler coming to PS4 and PS5 later this year. It includes three competitive game modes: Point Capture, Domination and Destruction, and… well, looks like every other multiplayer shooter out there. But if you’re into that sort of thing, it might be fun. Because mechs. There’ll be a network test coming this spring, if you’re interested.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Kowabunga Collection

Remember the old Turtles games from days gone by? The Kowabunga Collection is bringing them all to PlayStation consoles in a new, shiny collection. It looks to include around 10 games, and it’s coming later this year.

Gigabash

This is a Kaiju brawler, coming to PS4 and PS5 later this year. It looks a lot like the Godzilla game from some years ago – though hopefully a bit better.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R

Japanese classic spin-off Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle is getting a new outing. It’s colourful, over the top, loud and brash, just as you’d expect. It’s a combat game featuring 50 characters, and coming this autumn.

Trek to Yomi

We’ve seen a fair bit of Trek to Yomi already, but every new trailer makes us more excited for this samurai movie-meets-videogame experience. It looks sumptuous! Like starring in your own Kurosawa movie. What more could you want? It’s out this spring.

Returnal

Returnal is getting co-op! And brand new content in the form of Returnal: Ascension. As if we needed an excuse to jump back into one of the best games of last year – but we’ll take it. It looks like we’ll find out more about Selene’s story, as well as fight against even bigger challenges. It’s coming 22nd March, and it’s a free update.

The Diofield Chronicle

Here’s an upcoming game from Square Enix. It’s a strategy-focused title set in a fantasy world filled with monsters, conflict. The trailer didn’t give too much away, but it’s out later this year, so we probably won’t have to wait long to find out more.

Valkyrie Elysium

Another new title from Square Enix. This time, it’s Valkyrie Elysium, which looks to be the newest title in the Valkyrie Profile series. It’s focused on fast-paced action combat and exploration. It’s also coming later this year.
