Super Bowl LIX has come and gone and all that’s left are the memories. And by memories we mean all the movie trailers, commercials, and promos that aired during the game. You know, the important stuff. Which upcoming films used the NFL’s signature event to make a (halfback) pitch to audiences? Here are all the movies that offered football fans and football tolerators alike something else to get excited about besides sports.
Thunderbolts*
While Super Bowl viewers got to see a short Thunderbolts* promo, Marvel Studios released a full trailer for the film online. It’s the film’s best yet. It’s emotional and really leans into that asterisk in the title. And also the fact it has a Dr. Manhattan-level baddie turning the people of New York City into ash.
Jurassic World Rebirth
The Eagles might have won this year’s Super Bowl, but dinosaurs also had a good day. Universal Pictures released a new teaser for Jurassic World Rebirth that packed a whole lot of prehistoric punch into a short promo.
How To Train Your Dragon
Hiccup and Toothless also got to leave the Isle of Berk for New Orleans on Super Sunday with their own commercial for the upcoming live-action How To Train Your Dragon. And just like every promo for this film, it totally worked for us. Of course, it helps when you get to use one of the greatest scores in movie history.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
Here. We. Go. And by “go” we mean Tom Cruise once again threatening to fall from the side of an airplane. That’s just one of the many things he did in the Super Bowl commercial for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
F1
Vroom vroom vrooooooom vroooooooooom. That’s mostly what we got for Warner Bros. upcoming Formula 1 film F1 starring Brad Pitt. Honestly? That was more than enough. This is an intense teaser that has us revved up for the movie.
Novocaine
Jack Quaid loves getting beaten up and bloodied on screen, and that love made its way to the Super Bowl with a promo for his new movie Novocaine. In it, he plays a man who feels no physical pain, something others are far too happy to take advantage of.
Live-Action Lilo & Stitch
Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch remake got a fun football-inspired commercial. It featured everyone’s favorite little blue experiment running amok on a football field. This promo was easily the most fun, original, and creative of all the movie ads that ran during the Super Bowl.
Smurfs
You can’t just cast Rihanna as Smurfette without making a big deal out of it, and the new Smurfs movie did just that with its own big game ad. It brings those little blue creatures into the real world.
Did they watch the Super Bowl while visiting? We don’t smurfing know, but we’re glad they and all these other trailers made Super Bowl Sunday more fun for movie lovers.
