EMINEM fans have shared their rage about the rapper not receiving a prestigious award at this year’s Video Music Awards.
Last month, it was revealed that Katy Perry would be receiving the MTV Video Vanguard Award and is set to perform at the iconic award show.
In a statement, Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, programming & events at Paramount said, “Katy is a musical powerhouse and true pop culture icon.
“With her game-changing creative vision, she has become a global phenomenon and taken over the world’s biggest stages.
“Katy’s prowess will be on full display live on the VMAs with a can’t-miss, career-encompassing performance celebrating her biggest moments and chart-topping hits,” he concluded.
However, Eminem, real name Marshall Mathers, fans weren’t too thrilled about the news despite the Rap God hitmaker set to open up the VMAs.
The rap music star is also nominated for eight awards including Video of the Year for Houdini.
The hit single stems from his album The Death of Slim Shady.
THE OUTRAGE
Followers made sure their voices were heard on X.
One wrote, “Eminem deserves the Video Vanguard 10 times more than Katy Perry whose ‘comeback’ has been catastrophic to put it bluntly.”
Over the summer, Katy dropped her comeback single Woman’s World, but received backlash over the music video and who produced the song, Dr. Luke.
“MTV got Eminem to open the VMAs but couldn’t give him the Vanguard award,” another said.
A third begged him not to appear at the show, “Eminem better not attend VMAs robbed him the Vanguard Award.”
“It’s unbelievable Eminem hasn’t been recognized yet with the Vanguard Award,” someone else said.
A fifth claimed, “Eminem deserves the Vanguard award. Production, storylines, direction, creativity, originality, besides the music.
Past VMA Vanguard Award winners
MTV aired their first Video Music Awards in the early 1980s.
“MTV wouldn’t have made it through those early days without his presence and videos.”
