Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that there’s some bad news to report if you’ve been waiting on Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) or even Andre DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) to make a comeback.
In an interview with Soap Opera News, Penghlis announced that he’s leaving daytime dramas behind.
It turns out Penghlis feels like he’s closed that chapter of his life, so he’s moving on and focusing on other things – like the release of his new cookbook and perhaps other acting roles outside of soaps.
“While I cherish my time on the show, my life has taken a different path now,” Penghlis admitted.
The former DOOL star clarified that he’s “leaving the soap world” and hinted about feeling taken for granted.
Penghlis also alluded to having some issues with the writing at Days, so it seems like he’s rather fed up with the treatment he received.
Whatever the case, Penghlis was clear about his exit being a permanent one since he confirmed viewers had seen the last of him in Salem.
Of course, it’s possible Penghlis will change his mind somewhere down the line.
There have been other Days actors who acted like they were gone for good – only to end up returning years later.
This is often a business where you can never say never, but Penghlis seems content and certain of his decision for now.
Naturally, Penghlis’ choice to abandon soaps means he won’t be returning to General Hospital as Victor Cassadine either.
However, that’s not much of a surprise since GH already recast the role with Charles Shaughnessy (who also plays Shane Donovan on DOOL) before Victor ultimately suffered a grim fate.
As for Thaao Penghlis’ roles on Days, his announcement makes it unlikely that Andre will ever rise from the grave again.
It wouldn’t make much sense to recast at this point, so it sounds like Andre will remain deceased.
Unless the show chooses to recast Tony, they’ll have to work around his absence when it comes to any potential return stints Anna DiMera (Leann Hunley) might make without him.
