Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy addressed a viral video of a fight at a pizza joint after a number of social media users claimed he was involved in the confrontation.
Since 2016, Dave Portnoy has been the internet’s go-to pizza reviewer. The Barstool Sports founder has changed the fortunes of a number of pizza joints with his now-iconic ‘One Bite’ shoutouts.
Portnoy uploads a new review pretty much every day and is mentioned in the majority of pizza videos from other creators.
On June 29, social media was swept up by another video, this time of a pizza shop owner confronting an unruly customer over the price. The video, which was initially posted on TikTok by Starglizzy93, shows the pizza maker slamming a few slices over the customer’s head before the customer threw different things back and stormed off.

The video, which has 5 million views on TikTok, was reposted on other platforms, including X (formerly Twitter). Over there, users were quick to claim that it was Portnoy involved in the video. “Dave Portnoy was just kicked out of another pizza place,” one caption read. “Dave Portnoy don’t know how to act anymore,” another said.
It eventually got onto the Barstool Sports founder’s radar, who responded to his name being used.
“Momma there goes that man again! The haters are so obsessed with me they make me go viral even when it’s not even me. That’s true power!” he posted on X. “I’ve become a myth, a spook story that criminals tell their kids at night. “Rat on your pop, and Portnoy will get you!”
As noted, Portnoy’s reviews have changed the fortunes of some pizza joints, especially when he gives them a high score.
It remains to be seen if he’ll give this one a review, but it wouldn’t be a shock if he at least parodies what happened. It would be very Portnoy.
