Square Enix updating older games on iOS is not something we see often. Chrono Trigger ($9.99) on iOS and Android was downgraded with its “Upgrade Version” when it arrived on Steam, and it hasn’t been fixed ever since when it comes to the bad visuals. On Steam, Square Enix allowed users to toggle off the filter to make Chrono Trigger look good again. Today after a few years, Square Enix has announced (via Gematsu) new features coming to Chrono Trigger on iOS, Android, and Steam. These include up to 21:9 aspect ratio support, an auto battle speed boost option, more save slots, and an extras menu for the mobile version. Watch the trailer for this below:
Until the update is live on iOS from March 11th (alongside other platforms), I remain skeptical about the visuals being fixed or allowing a toggle like the Steam version. Chrono Trigger is one of the most important games ever, and I hope this update arriving after so much time shows Square Enix actually cares about the mobile version. If you don’t own it and want to play Chrono Trigger, you can buy it for $9.99 on mobile and $14.99 on Steam. Check it out on the App Store for iOS here, Google Play for Android here, and Steam for PC here. Have you played Chrono Trigger on mobile yet?
