Christopher Nolan Knighted, Emma Thomas Made Dame

Christopher Nolan and his wife/producing partner, Emma Thomas, have receied their fair share of acclaim for 2023’s Oppenheimer; now, even the British monarchy is getting in on the action. On Thursday, it was announced that Nolan will receive knighthood, and Thomas will receive damehood, for their contributions to film.

The honor arrives the same month Nolan took home his first-ever Oscar, having won for Best Director with Oppenheimer. Beyond his win, the film took home six additional awards, including Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr., Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, and more.

Both Nolan and Thomas were born in London, and met while attending University College London. After marrying in 1997, the duo have collaborated on many films, including Tenet, Dunkirk, Interstellar, The Dark Knight, Insomnia, Memento, and more.

Others who’ve joined the ranks of King Charles III in singing praises for Nolan include Martin Scorsese, who recently said that the newly-appointed “Sir” could help “save cinema.” All those praises notwithstanding, Nolan may still have beef to work out with his Peloton instructor.
