Charli XCX Announces New Album Brat, Out This Summer

Charli XCX has announced her new album, Brat, which the British musician says will be out “this summer.” As a preview, she will release her latest single, “Von Dutch,” and its accompanying video this Thursday (February 29th).

The artist added that the project will be 15 songs and 41:23 minutes long. In other recent social media posts, Charli described Brat as a “club record.”

“i love you angels i love partying with you and i love all of you who wanted to be there but couldnt. xcx6 is a club record and i cant wait to party around the world with you,” she wrote. “i was born to make dance music. i came from the clubs. xcx6 is the album i’ve always wanted to make.”

Pre-saves for Brat are ongoing. Check out a teaser clip for “Von Dutch” below.

In a recent interview with The Face, Charli spoke about how she wanted to move in a different direction from her last studio album, Crash, a concept record about a pop singer selling out.

“I needed to switch after Crash — I wasn’t born to do radio liners,” Charli said, before describing Brat as simultaneously her “most aggressive and confrontational record” and her most vulnerable.

According to writer Shaad D’Souza, the album also focuses on friendships and rivalries rather than love — thanks to her “genuinely really nice and happy” relationship with fiancé George Daniel, producer and drummer in The 1975.

Elsewhere in the profile, D’Souza described “Von Dutch” as the “perfect introduction to her acidic, freewheeling new mode” and a throwback to Charli’s days on MySpace. Another track sees the artist delving into her grief over the passing of hyperpop pioneer SOPHIE.

Crash was released in March 2022. Since then, Charli XCX has contributed to the soundtracks for Bodies Bodies Bodies (“Hot Girl”) and Barbie (“Speed Drive”). She also helmed the Bottoms soundtrack with Leo Birenberg and guested on the title track for A. G. Cook’s upcoming album.

Last week, Charli DJed a packed Boiler Room set in Bushwick with Cook and Daniel.
