Dave Chappelle hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend, marking his third appearance since he made his first trip to the late-night sketch comedy series in 2016.
Chappelle opened the show with a monologue that touched on the recent controversies surrounding Kanye West and Kyrie Irving.
“Kanye got in so much trouble Kyrie got in trouble. Kyrie Irving posted a link of to a movie he seen on Amazon. No caption on the post or nothing like that, but apparently this movie had Anti-Semitic tropes…and the NBA told him he should apologize and he was slow to apologize. The list of demands to get back into their good graces got longer and longer and this is where I draw the line. I know the Jewish people have been through terrible things all over the world, but you can’t blame that on Black Americans.”
From there, Chappelle cued up a parody of House of the Dragon, which saw the comedian join forces with Chappelle’s Show characters Tyrone Biggums, Rick James and Silky Johnson.
“Anyone out here watching this new show, ‘House of the Dragon,’” Chappelle asked the crowd.“I am the biggest ‘Game of Thrones’ fan, I love their new show. And I got to tell you, I love that they’re including Black characters. But to be honest, the Black characters … they take me out of it a little bit. It’s that blonde hair and old timey accents. It’s a little jarring, where are these people from?”
