Candice trains with Mike Alexander in Los Angeles “and he has me doing a lot of resistance training along with high reps paired with low weight. His routines keep my heart rate up so I feel the cardio impact of the weight training as well,” she told The Global Town Hall. According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

While filming Vampire Diaries her co-star got her dancing. “Katerina introduced me to a dance studio that offers great classes that I’m looking forward to getting back to,” she said. Dancing is a great workout for many reasons. Not only does it build strength and promote flexibility, but helps you lose weight and even promotes cardiovascular function. A 2016 study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine determined that people who engaged in moderate-intensity dancing were 46 percent less likely to develop heart disease or die from it than non-dancers. In comparison, moderate-intensity walkers were just 25 percent less likely to suffer heart health issues.

Candice maintains a healthy, seasonal diet. “A few constants in my diet are oatmeal, non-fat greek yogurt, hummus, turkey and some form of mixed greens. Those things are always in my kitchen. Otherwise my diet varies according to the season,” she told The Global Town Hall.

Candice has a tactic when she dines out. “I make it a point to try new foods at new restaurants and Atlanta has an amazing restaurant scene! I love going to places where substitutions aren’t allowed. When all the components of the dish are on the plate for a reason. It’s important to watch what you eat but you have to enjoy exploring your palate as well! It’s all about balance,” she told The Global Town Hall.

Candice is a golfer. A comprehensive review published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that golf’s health benefits are extensive, including mind, body, and even lifespan. Benefits include improved longevity, decreased risk of developing heart disease or suffering a stroke, good mental health, and improved strength and balance.
