Following this morning’s announcement of the final Black Sabbath concert, Sharon Osbourne confirms that the all-star event will also include Ozzy Osbourne’s farewell solo show.
“Ozzy didn’t have a chance to say goodbye to his friends, to his fans, and he feels there’s been no full stop,” Sharon told the BBC following the concert announcement. “This is his full stop.”
As we reported earlier today (February 5th), the original members of Black Sabbath — Ozzy, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward — will reunite to play one more show in their hometown of Birmingham, England. The all-day concert will take place July 5th at Villa Park, and also feature an Ozzy solo performance, as well as sets from Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Alice in Chains, Gojira, and many other metal luminaries.
The once-in-a-lifetime concert event will mark the final performances from both Black Sabbath and Ozzy, who turned 76 this past December. Sharon further remarked to Reuters, “For Ozzy right now, it’s definitely: ‘I love you and good night.’”
Ozzy has experienced a number of health setbacks in recent years. He kicked off his solo farewell tour in 2018, but never had the chance to complete the outing. A serious fall at home in early 2019 led to major surgeries, on top of his ongoing battle with Parkinson’s disease, which he disclosed in early 2020.
“He’s doing great,” Sharon told BBC of Ozzy’s health. “He’s doing really great. He’s so excited about this, about being with the guys again and all his friends. It’s exciting for everyone.”
While Ozzy hasn’t played a full concert since the end of 2018, he did perform a couple of songs with Iommi at the Commonwealth Games in August 2022, as well as a couple more tunes the following month at the NFL kickoff a SoFi Stadium. He also released two albums during that timespan, including 2020’s Ordinary Man and 2022’s Patient Number 9.
