Remeber Fyre Festival, the 2017 music festival in the Bahamas that turned out to be a complete farce and ended up with multiple documentaries about it and the creator in jail? Yeah, well, that same creator, Billy McFarland, is now out of jail and he’s pulling the same scam again. Surprisingly, however, folks are once again falling for it and McFarland is going all in.
McFarland initially announced plans for Fyre Festival 2 in September. But after months of little to know news about the event, some fans believed it would never happen. Now the 33-year convicted fraudster is insisting that this event is really happening, and this time it won’t include fake housing and crappy sandwiches in Styrofoam boxes.
“I’m sure many people think I’m crazy for doing this again. But I feel I’d be crazy not to do it again,” McFarland said on Instagram. “After years of reflection and now thoughtful planning, the new team and I have amazing plans for FYRE 2.”
Fyre Festival 2, elecric scamaloo is allegedly scheduled to take place from May 30 to June 2, 2025 on Mexico’s Isla Mujeres. Anyone interested in attending can opt for one of four ticket packages that range from $1,400 to $1.1 million. But it’s not just music, McFarland’s new endeavor is set to include “music, arts, cuisine, comedy, fashion, gaming, sports and treasure hunting.”
Interestingly enough, one thing that is does not current list is an artist lineup, which feels like a fairly important aspect of a music (based) festival. Of course, while some fans are excited for the new ventures, others remain skeptical.
“Get a job, Billy,” one Instagram commenter wrote.
“You still owe me money from the first one,” said another.
We’ll see whether or not this second festival ever occurs, and if it does, what it looks like. But should it take place, we might be in for heck of a Netflix documentary.
