- Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 6.
- Benedict Cumberbatch stars in the film as the Sorcerer Supreme.
- During a recent interview, Cumberbatch predicted the film will be as successful as Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Coming off of the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home and his Academy Award-nominated turn in The Power of the Dog, Benedict Cumberbatch is understandably feeling quite confident in his work these days.
That confidence has boiled over into his feelings about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is set to hit theaters on May 6. During a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Cumberbatch boldly predicted that it’s going to be “a success on the level of” Spider-Man: No Way Home.
“It’s a big, big movie,” Cumberbatch told Empire Magazine. “It’s going to be an absolute riot. And if it brings off the level of ambition it’s got, we’re going to have a success on the level of Spidey. There you go, I’ll put my flag in the sand.”
Cumberbatch’s comments are certainly quite intriguing when you consider just how big of a pop-cultural success No Way Home was thanks to its multiple Spider-Mans. Given the confidence Cumberbatch has in Multiverse of Madness, perhaps that film could boast equally mind-blowing character appearances and cameos. The trailer has already confirmed the appearance of Patrick Stewart as Professor X, while fans have been speculating that the film could feature the MCU debut of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool. There’s even been some speculation that Tom Cruise could appear as an alternate universe version of Tony Stark.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which was directed by Spider-Man filmmaker Sam Raimi and stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams, is set to hit theaters in the United States on Friday, May 6.
