Actors Ben Stiller and Timothee Chalamet followed their beloved New York Knicks to Detroit for Game 3 against the Pistons on Thursday night, earning them the further respect of basketball fans.

While both Timothee Chalamet, and Ben Stiller especially, are fixtures at Madison Square Garden for New York Knicks home games, heading to the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit is a entirely different level of fandom. Granted, people like Chalamet and Stiller could be back in bed in New York City by midnight if they wanted.

Nevertheless, Stiller and Chalamet, already generally well-liked dudes among all cultures, found themselves getting big-upped by basketball fans for their support of the team.

“Timothee has drastically moved up my white boy rankings. Ball knowledge + basketball sicko,” one reply to the above tweet read.

“I love the fact that @BenStiller is just an absolute basketball sicko,” added another.

Luckily for the A-list pair, their trip to the Motor City was a successful one as the Knickerbockers escaped with a narrow 118-116 win, taking a crucial 2-1 lead in the Best-of-Seven series.

“Incredible energy and volume in that arena. And so quiet whenever Knicks would score. The fans in Detroit are locked in. Never heard it so loud as when they were in the lead. Knicks being able to stay ahead most of game was so important to keep the crowd noise down,” the acclaimed Severance showrunner tweeted about the game the following morning.

As a personal aside, what Stiller and Chalamet are actually displaying here is the type of fandom you usually see in European football; England, Spain, Italy, France, etc.

In Europe, away teams are allotted a portion of tickets specifically for the away team’s fans, who then all largely sit in the same section. The reason this is far less feasible in the United States, other than its sheer size, is a proper train service that connects these metropolises. There’s also the fact that it’s far less cost effective here than in Europe, with the general sport-going experience being far cheaper across the pond, in terms of both ticket prices and concessions.

The bottom line is this: the average person could not do what Stiller and Chalamet have done here. Only someone of great expendable wealth and free time can. Such is professional sports in the United States.
