As per latest Star Wars scoop, the seasoned screenwriter Beau Willimon, famed for his work on House of Cards, is set to collaborate with director James Mangold for the prequel, Dawn of the Jedi. As per The Hollywood Reporter, the duo is all geared up to bring their magic to the galaxy far, far away. While the official release date is still under wraps, this isn’t Willimon’s maiden voyage in the Star Wars universe. He previously contributed to the acclaimed Andor series on Disney+, notably crafting the gripping prison arc storyline. With his exceptional talent, Willimon penned the eighth, ninth, and tenth episodes of the series, including the standout “One Way Out,” which captured hearts and earned him a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series.

What’s the latest in the Star Wars universe?

Besides the hype around Dawn of the Jedi, word on the street is that Disney’s hunting for talent to beef up the cast alongside Daisy Ridley’s Rey. Then there’s this secret Star Wars flick teased at last year’s Celebration, with Dave Filoni from Ahsoka fame supposedly at the helm, looking to give a nod to the classic Heir to the Empire. And the Mandalorian’s fourth season? Yeah, they’re flipping that into a flick called The Mandalorian & Grogu, hitting theaters on May 22, 2026. Meanwhile, Patty Jenkins is grinding away on her Rogue Squadron project, finally getting that screenplay down.

Disney just dropped the trailer for its new animated series, Tales of the Empire, which will hit screens on National Star Wars Day. This series dives deep into the dark side, following characters like Ahsoka’s Morgan Elsbeth and Clone Wars’ Barriss Offee. It’s all about their journey, one serving the Empire and Thrawn while the other gets caught up with those Jedi-hunting Inquisitors. Last month, we got a sneak peek at The Acolyte, teasing a murder-mystery plot set in Lucasfilm’s High Republic timeline.

Plot of Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi

Now, scant details regarding Dawn of the Jedi are available, the tale of the Jedi Order’s origins unfolding 25,000 years before the Skywalker Saga’s inception. Director Mangold divulged last year that the film draws inspiration from Hollywood’s biblical epics like The Ten Commandments and Ben-Hur. It endeavors to plumb the depths of the nascent Jedi culture and its spiritual bond with the Force. Furthermore, Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy hinted at Dawn of the Jedi potentially complementing the narrative of the forthcoming Rey Skywalker film, implying it could illuminate the birth of the new Jedi Order. Despite this era predating the majority of Star Wars characters, there’s conjecture that the ancient lightsaber architect droid Huyang, portrayed by David Tennant, might appear, considering his age surpasses 25,000 years as per franchise lore.
