The Atlanta Hawks started the season in epic fashion with a win against the Brooklyn Nets and a rousing halftime performance from one of the city’s favorite trapper rappers, Gucci Mane!
BOSSIP was in attendance on the Hawks’ opening night and we look forward to being there for many more as the season progresses. From the minute we walked into State Farm Arena, we knew that the team, the fans, and the arena staff were excited and ready to get down to business. Before tip-off, in an extremely classy move, the Hawks asked the sold crowd of 17,548 for a moment of silence to honor former Hawk and basketball hall of famer Dikembe Mutombo who passed away just weeks before the beginning of the season.
After a disappointing 2023-2024 season, during which the team ended 10th in the Eastern Conference and missed the playoffs, the franchise was reignited by winning the number one pick in the NBA draft and selecting French phenom Zaccherie Risacher.
Risacher will have rookie growing pains, but he showed great signs of things to come by scoring his first NBA points on his first attempt, eliciting a thunderous cheer from the eager crowd.
If you know anything about Atlanta, you know that the city’s celebrities and stars love the Hawks and many of them were in the house to cheer the team on for the beginning of the season. One such celebrity, Monica, was in the house celebrating her birthday!
Also in the house was Grammy Award winner Killer Mike!
And no Hawks home game would be complete without 2Chainz sitting courtside with his family!
Don’t get it twisted though, the glitz and glamor of A-listers at the game by no means distracted the team from achieving their goal of a victory and when the final buzzer sounded, the Hawks took the win 120-116.
