On December 29, the competition show released an ad for its seventh season on ABC.

The commercial was Wizard of Oz theme with Katy, 39, as Dorothy, and Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Ryan Seacrest as the lion, scarecrow, and tin man.

They walked through the hometowns of some of the winners and runner-ups from past seasons.

When they got to the end, Katy asked what the land behind the gate was, and Ryan, 49, told her it was Hollywood.

“Somewhere over the rainbow… a star will be born,” Ryan said.

Before the judges and hosts walked through the gates, Katy clicked her ruby slippers and said: “There’s no place like American Idol.”

American Idol will air its newest season on Sunday, February 18 on ABC and stream on Hulu.

‘WE WANT MUSIC’

Instead of focusing on the trailer, fans asked when Katy is going to release new music.

“KP6 when?” commented an Instagram user.

“What day does this season end? We want new music,” said another.

A third wondered: “Where is KP6? We need a lead single and a proper rollout before the album!”

“Why can’t you keep this same energy with KP6?” asked an impatient fan.

“Is the sound new music?” someone asked.

“Stop. Make music,” said another.

One last fan added: “Stop doing basic TV shows and work. Save pop music, girl.”

KP6 IN 2024?

Katy has not released an album since 2020, with her fifth LP, Smile.

And just a few days before Smile dropped, the hitmaker became a new mom.

Since then, she has only released a few singles that weren’t part of her album including When I’m Gone, Electric, and Where We Started with Thomas Rhett.

Aside from American Idol, Katy was busy with a Las Vegas Residency show called PLAY for the past two years.

However, at the last show in November, the curtain closed and the words: “See you in 2024,” appeared on them.

She has not given any details about her upcoming sixth album, but seemingly confirmed it will come out in the new year.

A source told The U.S. Sun that Katy is finalizing her album and plans to tour in the UK in 2024.

“Katy has been working on her most personal album ever for much of the past two years,” the insider said.

“She has been doing it on her own terms and it is quite different from anything she has released before.”

They went on: “But after so long spent on the West Coast of the US, she feels ready to tour again.

“The demand is there because she has so many hits, so taking her show on the road is bound to be a big draw.”

The source ended: “The hope is that she can head out towards the end of 2024, but it is still being worked out.”

The last time Katy toured around the world was in 2018 for her Witness The World Tour.
