It’s been some time, but those pesky xenomorphs are back with a vengeance. The last time they hit the big screen was back in 2017’s Alien: Covenant. Now, with the release of Alien: Romulus, director Fede Álvarez (Evil Dead) is combining the “haunted house in space” vibes of Ridley Scott’s 1979 Alien, with the pulse-pounding action of James Cameron’s 1986 sequel Aliens. You know, the two movies in the franchise everyone agrees were completely awesome. And we finally have a new trailer for the upcoming film, showcasing the terrifying space beasties doing their thing once again. You can watch the Alien: Romulus trailer in full right here:
Down below is the official synopsis for Alien: Romulus, as well as the latest teaser poster. It shows the alien face hugger saying hello to a poor unsuspecting victim. A poor soul who is about to experience very pronounced chest pain:
While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.
Iconic director Ridley Scott is producing this new Alien film, although he says it doesn’t tie into his own pair of prequel films, Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. It also doesn’t tie into the soon-to-be-released Alien series coming to streaming soon. Romulus actually takes place between the first two films in the franchise. Just don’t expect Ellen Ripley to show up or anything like that. Remember, she’s still in deep sleep with her cat Jonesy at this time, taking a little trip through space. The seventh chapter in the franchise stars Cailee Spaeny (Mare of Easttown), as well as David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.
Alien: Romulus will arrive in theaters everywhere on August 16, 2024.
