Mura Masa Demon Time

Mura Masa: Demon Time [Polydor]

The intent behind Mura Masa’s third record was simple: songwriter and producer Alex Crossan just wanted to make something fun. The title, Demon Time, alludes to a special blend of enjoyment: “It’s devil on the shoulder type fun. Not necessarily the most wholesome, but it’s a really good time.” Joining the party are Erika de Casier (“E-motions”), Channel Tres and Shygirl (“Hollaback Bitch”), Lil Uzi Vert, PinkPanthress, and Shygirl (“Bbycakes”), and more.

Michelle Branch: The Trouble With Fever [Audio Eagle/Nonesuch/Warner]

Michelle Branch didn’t realize that an album was being born when she began fiddling around in a studio at her Nashville home during the 2020 lockdown. Co-produced by the Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney, who is currently still her husband, The Trouble With Fever’s songwriting process was solitary and inspired by Silver Jews and Purple Mountains’ David Berman. “I just feel like I learned so much by reading the lyrics, and I would often find myself, as I was writing, saying, ‘What would David do,’” Branch explained in an interview with Billboard. The LP is led by a song about toxic masculinity, “I’m a Man.”
