Why is ‘Ice Cube dead’ trending?

FANS of rapper Ice Cube were left panic stricken after the term ‘Ice Cube dead’ began trending across the internet.

However, to fans relief, like many famous faces, the rapper and songwriter is not dead and instead fell victim to a death hoax.

Why is ‘Ice Cube dead’ trending?

Rumors of the rapper’s alleged death gained traction in December 2023 and January 2024, after a fake website published the news that Ice Cube had passed away.

However, the information shared was in fact false – and this is not the first time the rapper has fell victim to a death hoax.

Over the years, Ice Cube has been the victim of a number of false death rumors circulating online – including in November 2022, when fans were incorrectly informed that the star had died.

Other celebrities that have had incorrect rumours circulate online include Amy Schumer.

In December 2023, the actress and stand-up comedian fell victim to a cruel online prank, after news quickly spread that Amy Schumer had been hospitalized as a result of a fall.

While not quite a celebrity death hoax, the tweet did perpetuate another variation of the trend, the celebrity injury hoax.

What have fans said about the death hoax?

After the term ”Ice Cube Dead” began trending across social media, fans of the star rushed to verify the claims.

After realising the news was in fact false, one fan of Ice Cube wrote: ”My heart dropped.”

Meanwhile, one user, who wasn’t convinced from the start encouraged others not to fall victim to the rumours.

Taking to a Facebook post which referred to the rappers false demise, one user wrote: ”Ice Cube isn’t dead look him up on Google.”

Ice Cube has forged a legacy spanning over 25 years with millions of platinum and gold album sales worldwide.

Throughout his career, the star has also collaborated with some of Rap and Hip Hop’s royalty, such as Public Enemy, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Ice-T among others, as well as starring in films such as Boyz In The Hood, Three Kings and the Friday series.

As of January 2024, Ice Cube boasts a staggering 31 million followers on Instagram – where he keeps fans up to date with his life away from the spotlight.

Aside from his social media success, in 2024, Ice Cube is set to tour across Canada as part of his Straight Into Canada tour.

Taking to Instagram in November 2023, to announce the tour to fans and followers, the rapper and songwriter wrote: ”From Straight Outta Compton to Straight into Canada.

”I’m bringing over 30 years of hits wit me in February and March. ”
