Run-DMC to Headline ‘Hip Hop 50’ Mega-Concert at Yankee Stadium

Run-DMC is headlining a mega-concert, ‘Hip Hop 50 Live at Yankee Stadium,’ celebrating the 50th anniversary of hip-hop in the genre’s birthplace in the Bronx, New York.

Run-DMC will be headlining a mega-concert to celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop with Hip Hop 50 Live at Yankee Stadium on Friday, August 11, featuring performances from Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Ice Cube, Eve, Lil Kim, Trina, Remy Ma, Fat Joe, Ghostface Killah, Slick Rick, Lupe Fiasco, and more.

“I am honored to hit the stage in the Bronx, the birthplace of Hip-Hop, and celebrate all of my heroes,” said RUN. “August 11 is Hip-Hop’s 50th birthday! So ‘Up in the Bronx’ where it all started, we will be celebrating this historic moment in history!”

“I am honored to pay tribute to the culture that allowed this little shy kid from Queens to grow up and become the Mighty King of Rock! Thank you, hip-hop!” adds DMC.

Pre-sales begin Thursday, June 8, at 10 AM EST until 10 PM, with prices starting at $50. General onsale begins June 9 at 10 AM EST. Hip Hop 50 will e co-produced by Mass Appeal, Live Nation, and the New York Yankees. BASSic Black Entertainment CEO Adam Blackstone and producer and keyboardist Omar Edwards will be the concert’s creative music co-directors.

Hip Hop 50 will also include a special “Pillars of Hip-Hop” set featuring DJ Kool Herc and his sister Cindy Campbell, as well as Grandmaster Caz, Kurtis Blow, Melle Mel, Roxanne Shanté, Scorpio, and the Sugar Hill Gang. A “Legendary DJ” segment will feature Clark Kent, Marley Marl, Mannie Fresh, and Battlecat.

The Grammy Awards hosted a 50th anniversary of hip-hop celebration in February with a host of legendary artists like Missy Elliott, Big Boi, Run-DMC, Queen Latifah, Method Man, Public Enemy, Busta Rhymes, and DJ Jazzy Jeff, among others.
