Chris Hemsworth is one of the leading stars in Hollywood, and it has mainly become possible because of his work as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, aka MCU. The actor has been playing the character for years, and there are murmurs about a fifth stand-alone film in his franchise. But did you know the actor initially refused the offer to be a part of the MCU? Yep! You read that right; stick to the end to find out more.
Chris stepped into the role for the first time in 2011, and since then, he has reportedly been the only actor with four solo movies in the MCU. He has also appeared in the Avengers movies, and his fans are still not ready to say goodbye to their beloved Odinson, the God of Thunder. Hemsworth-led Thor movie gave Marvel one of its most loved villains, Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston. The God of Mischiefs became a savior and ultimately took on the role of God of Stories. Both Thor and Loki’s character development have been excellent to watch, and their chemistry made it more spectacular.
The fans wish to see the brothers reunite in the MCU again, but that is pretty uncertain now. But years ago, when Chris Hemsworth failed at auditions, he considered passing Thor’s role in the MCU. The Australian actor opened up about it in an interview with Sydney Morning Herald. He said, “I had 12 months where every audition I was getting worse feedback, I was getting more and more nervous and uncertain, thinking: what am I doing? Do I even want this? Trying to convince myself I didn’t want it so it didn’t hurt so much. And then something changed.”
Chris Hemsworth added, ” I just said ‘whatever’ and stopped thinking about it so much. Then I got busy again.” But everyone knows it is always a long-term commitment with Marvel, and Hemsworth was skeptical about it.
He continued, “I was crossing the road in Vancouver … and I remember the exact moment getting a call from my lawyer and my manager saying ‘you got the offer,’” he said. “And then kind of going ‘oh wow, cool. So what is it?’ ‘It’s a superhero thing, and it’s a six-picture deal.’ And we were like ‘that’s a lot of films to sign up for. We should pass on this.’” The film featured some of the fantastic actors in the cast, including Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins. The Avengers actor felt ridiculous about working with them because they were already such massive stars in the industry.
Kenneth Branagh directed it. However, Thor is among the lowest-earning MCU movies regarding its domestic opening. The film earned $449.32 million at the worldwide box office.
Chris Hemsworth as Thor was last seen in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder, directed by Taika Waititi. Both the film and the director received a lot of backlash for the film’s over-the-top comedy. All the films from the Thor franchise and other Marvel movies stream on Disney+.
