Most fast food aficionados know In-N-Out has a “secret menu” that isn’t really a secret among the chain’s many fans. However, you may not be aware of an almost mythical item you can get your hands on at certain Wendy’s locations: a behemoth known as the “T-Rex burger.”
In 2013, a Wendy’s in the Canadian province of Manitoba made waves when it added a new item to its menu in the form of the T-Rex burger, which featured nine fresh, never-frozen beef patties that were each topped with cheese sandwich between two buns that also contained all of the usual fixings while clocking in at around 3,000 calories.
The T-Rex burger was initially dreamed up as a prank by Sports Illustrated, which ran a fake ad for the item in an issue that was released in 2004.
However, it became a very real thing close to a decade later when a franchisee in the city of Brandon started selling the offering (which cost $21.99 on its own and $24.99 for people who felt the need to throw a drink and some fries into the mix) that went viral before the buzzkills at the Wendy’s corporate office forced the restaurant to discontinue the item that had been ordered at least a couple of times per day.
However, that wasn’t enough to stop people from asking for it.
2013 was basically a century ago in internet years—to put things in perspective, The Rizzler wasn’t even alive when the T-Rex burger Had A Moment—and TikTok has rediscovered the culinary monstrosity courtesy of some influencers who’ve been able to find a Wendy’s location willing to whip one up for them.
That includes the man known as JoeOhEats, who posted a fairly gag-inducing video of him attempting to devour the burger he covered in sauce from Raising Cane’s halfway through for good measure.
Anthony Villegas was also able to track one down last year and dropped $30 on a T-Rex he admitted was “too big to handle.”
I can’t tell you why these videos are suddenly taking off when you consider they were originally posted in 2024, but something tells me more than a few Wendy’s locations are going to be fielding orders for these big boys over the next couple of weeks.
