Actor Patrick Luwis chatted about starring in “Cobra Kai” on Netflix and “Barbie.”

‘Cobra Kai’ final season

On being a part of the final season of “Cobra Kai,” Luwis said, “It was so cool. Obviously, it’s a totally different experience filming it and having that experience (being focused on the work and trying to get everything right).”

“Then, there’s the anticipation for the show to come out, and the show does come out, and the fans have been really great,” he noted.

“The fans are always excited about new characters, and that’s awesome. I enjoyed being there on set doing it, and now, I am enjoying it being released to the world and seeing how it’s affecting people. Hopefully, people are enjoying it too,” Luwis elaborated.

Playing his character Axel Kovacevic

Luwis is drawn to his character, Axel Kovacevic, for several reasons. “Axel has many layers to him… he is not a one-sided villain,” he said.

“At first, it might seem that way but underneath, you see the sensitive, abused side of him. Axel is unsure how to react in situations outside of fighting, and his vulnerability with Samantha LaRusso,” Luwis explained.

“There is a lot more to him than this karate machine,” Luwis admitted. “It is fun to be able to play both sides of that. I switch from a ‘Terminator’ vibe in the tournament and then, I go into a beach scene in Barcelona, where I don’t know how to act around a girl my age.”

“The beach scene is a fun one, for sure,” he said with a sweet laugh.

Brad Everett Young‘s Dream Loud campaign

Luwis enjoyed being a part of Brad Everett Young’s Dream Loud campaign, which helps preserve art and music programs in schools. “Shooting with Brad Everett Young was great,” Luwis said.

“It was really fun, and he is just so great. Brad is a very nice guy, and he is very creative. Brad is able to get things out of you that you may not have necessarily done, so that’s cool. We did a lot of fun stuff in that shoot,” Luwis elaborated.

‘Barbie’

On being a part of “Barbie,” he said, “Barbie was so much fun. I wished that some more of my scenes would have made the final cut, but it was nice to still be in it. ‘Barbie’ was just such a cool movie.”

“Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling were so nice,” he said. “We were shooting in Venice with a lot of spectators, and we were in public, and that added an element of excitement.”

“It was pretty fun thing to be a part of, especially from its successful box office standpoint,” Luwis added.

‘Pop Culture Unplugged with Elias’

Luwis thoroughly enjoyed being featured in “Pop Culture Unplugged with Elias.” “It was great to be interviewed by Elias. He is a really nice guy and it was fun,” Luwis said.

“All of the people that have interviewed me so far about ‘Cobra Kai’ have asked me some really unique questions, and that has been fun and refreshing,” he added.

Closing thoughts on ‘Cobra Kai’

For fans and viewers, Luwis remarked, “Honestly, the biggest thing for me is that I hope the new y/A enjoys watching it. I hope it serves the story… I want people to keep enjoying the show, and I hope it feels like a believable, smooth transition into this world.”

“I think it’s a very exciting season and it’s the last season. I hope it wraps up on a really great note. That’s the most you can hope for as an actor,” Luwis concluded.
