A few hours ago, Netflix dropped the Damsel trailer online. The film stars Millie Bobby Brown in the leading role. After Stranger Things and Enola Holmes, Millie is all geared up to leave a lasting impression on us with her performance. The 2 minutes 59 seconds trailer shows Brown in another period drama, but in a darker premise.
The Netflix film is directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and written by Dan Mazeau. The film also stars Ray Winstone, Nick Robinson, and Shohreh Aghdashloo, with Angela Bassett and Robin Wright. Millie has also worked as the film’s Executive Producer along with Sue Baden-Powell, Zack Roth, Robert Brown, Dan Mazeau, and Mark Bomback.
The film’s official synopsis reads, “A dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. Thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive.”
Still from the Damsel Trailer
As seen in the Damsel trailer, Millie plays Elodie, a princess who is all set to marry a handsome prince, prayed by Nick Robinson. At first, it looks like a fairytale with a happy ending for the Prince and Princess. However, the prince throws Elodie into a cave so the royal family can repay their ancient debt. Everything the royal family showed of themselves was a deception.
When Elodie lands deep down in the cave, she learns she’s not the only damsel who has been put through this distress. There were many like her before who were thrown in the death’s clutches. Elodie decides to fight back and avenge everything that happened to her and even the other princesses. But it’s not an easy fight, as the fire-spitting dragon is waiting to kill her.
The trailer shows Millie Bobby Brown as Elodie, ferocious and ready to fight whatever comes her way. We see a powerful transition in Elodie from being an obedient princess to a brave lady. The Stranger Things actress has performed some brilliant action scenes for the Netflix film. Will Elodi succeed in avenging the injustice done to her and others? That’s something we will find out once the film releases.
Watch the Damsel Trailer Below:
Damsel looks like an intriguing watch ready to challenge all the typical fairytales. It intends to show that women will no longer be sacrificial souls for others to flourish. The cast looks exciting, so we might also be treated to exceptional performances.
The film releases on Netflix on March 8, 2024.
