Pearl Jam have announced new album, Dark Matter, along with a 2024 world tour. The album’s title track, which doubles as its lead single, is out now.
Due on April 19th via Monkeywrench Records/Republic Records, Dark Matter marks Pearl Jam’s 12th studio album, following their 2020 release, Gigaton. Produced by Andrew Watt, it was recorded over a three-week period at Shangri-La Studios in Malibu, California, capturing “the band playing together with a burst of inspiration,” according to its press release. As for the tour, Pearl Jam will launch a North American run of shows beginning in Vancouver on May 4th. They’ll play a string of shows along the west coast, including in Portland, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles, as well as headline the BottleRock Napa festival. A visit to the UK and Europe follows beginning in June, with the band then returning to the US in August for concerts in the midwest and along the east coast. Pearl Jam are also slated to play shows in Australia and New Zealand in November.
A ticket pre-sale for members of Pearl Jam’s Ten Club begins today. Additionally, fans can register for a Ticketmaster Verified Fan sale now through Sunday, February 18th. Tickets will then go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, February 23rd via Ticketmaster.
Tickets will feature all-in pricing, meaning the price listed is the actual cost inclusive of transaction fees. Additionally, tickets will be non-transferrable outside of Ticketmaster expect for shows in New York and Illinois.
Pearl Jam teased the arrival of Dark Matter over the course of 2023, with drummer Matt Cameron confirming it was “ready to go” last November, and guitarist Mike McCreedy revealing this past January that it will be “heavier than you’d expect.”
The lead single, “Dark Matter,” supports what McCreedy said, presenting a raw version of the band, with thundering drums and a guitar-heavy arrangement. On the choruses, Eddie Vedder’s belt erupts at times into a powerful shout, while the screeching guitar solo closing the track expresses all the untamed fervor you’d hope for from an inspired Pearl Jam performance.
