Marvel and DC are the Hollywood giants that make comic book movies, but lately, superhero films have not been doing so well at the box office. There has been a lot of talk about fans experiencing superhero fatigue now. MCU star Chris Evans, who earned millions of fans after appearing as Captain America in the Marvel films, has reflected on the superhero movies of these days, and here’s what he has to say about it.

Like Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man and Evans as Cap was the face of the MCU, fans were divided when these two superheroes went up against each other in 2016’s Civil War. It significantly impacted Tony Stark’s and Steve Rogers’s relationship. Their characters had different ideologies but wanted to protect the people and their loved ones from harm. Marvel was at its peak back then, and most of their films were doing exceedingly well at the box office.

In 2023, most comic book/superhero films bombed at the box office. Among them, James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 received a positive response, and Aquaman 2 was also pretty good. The Marvels, The Flash, and Blue Beetle were significant disappointments. Chris Evans, however, has an interesting theory about it, which might decode why these films fail to impress the audience like they did previously.

Captain America star Chris Evans recently appeared at the Emerald City Comic Con and reflected on the box office failures of the superhero movies. Evans shared his thoughts via Laughing Place, saying, “[Making superhero films isn’t easy]. If it was easy, there’d be a lot more good ones – not trying to throw shade. Some Marvel projects are objectively phenomenal films.”

Evans also spoke about his love for fantasy films and shared he would love to be a part of one. He revealed being a fan of the Lord of the Rings and The Neverending Story. Chris supported his case by adding he can shoot a bow & arrow and can wear pointy ears. Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood approved Evans and said that he loves his choices as an actor apart from the Marvel projects.

Will Chris Evans return to the MCU as Captain America?

At the end of Avengers: Endgame, we saw Steve Rogers pass on his Captain America shield to Falcon, played by Anthony Mackie, and soon his film Captain America: Brave New World will be out. Meanwhile, Evans previously shared that this role is very dear to him, and last year at the C2E2 event in Chicago, he explained how the comic book stuff is fantastic and the more one delves into it, the more one becomes a fan. Despite several rumors on social media about his MCU return, there is no official news about it. Chris himself also did not give any substantial indication on that front.

He was seen in Ghosted opposite Ana de Armas on the work front. For more of the latest Hollywood updates, stay tuned to Koimoi!
