2019’s Avengers: Endgame has left a deep impression on the fans for several reasons, and the major ones were Natasha Romanoff and Tony Stark’s deaths. It was an emotional affair for the fans as an era ended. Two of the OG Avengers’ deaths were hard on us, but it would have been even more complex if the Russo brothers went ahead with Marvel boss Kevin Feige’s idea. Keep scrolling for more.
The film brought together almost all the MCU superheroes and was a celebration in the theatres. Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth made the characters memorable for everyone. They portrayed the roles of Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Hulk, Captain America, and Thor. The Infinity Saga was divided into two parts: Infinity War and Endgame. The movies earned millions of dollars at the box office globally.
According to Business Insider’s report, Kevin Feige had a more ruthless plan regarding the fate of the six Avengers in Endgame. The film’s co-director, Joe Russo, revealed it in the behind-the-scenes book titled The Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by Tara Bennett and Paul Terry. As per that, Russo said, “Kevin’s initial pitch was that it was ‘Toy Story 3’ — a ‘they’re all gonna jump into a furnace together’ concept.”
The report also mentioned how the Avengers: Endgame makers, Joe and Anthony Russo, disagreed with Kevin Feige’s decision, and they pushed back. The director duo felt killing off all six OG Avengers would have made it difficult for the Marvel fans to process the loss. Thankfully, they convinced Kevin Feige, and we only had to bear the loss of two heroes. It was also harrowing. Joe also revealed in the book that initially, they planned on letting Captain America and Iron Man die together.
But when producer Nate Moore suggested that Steve get back with Peggy, the makers liked that idea more. Chris Evans, too, bid his character goodbye with Avengers: Endgame. Other characters who were alive by the end of the film were Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, and Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye.
For the unversed, Robert Downey Jr’s celebrated character Iron Man died a noble death on the battlefield as he sacrificed himself to save everyone from Thanos. Scarlett Johansson’s character, Black Widow, sacrifices herself on Vormir in exchange for the Soul Stone.
Avengers: Endgame earned $2.79 billion globally, and the film is available on Disney+.
