Four of the 10 escaped New Orleans inmates have been arrested in the days following a massive jail break. One was allegedly captured hours after being seen in a video posted to social media.
Kendell Myles is the prisoner in question. He seemingly couldn’t help but flaunt his new-found freedom while partying with friends. A short celebration clip was posted to Instagram before Myles was later arrested in the French Quarter.
“I’m fresh out,” the man in the video is heard saying. That happiness was short-lived.
Myles was one of two inmates seen strolling Bourbon Street in the days that followed. Authorities were able to use facial recognition technology to identify him and his fellow escapee.
In all, four prisoners have been found. Six remain on the loose. Many believe they could still be in the city, hidden by family and friends. A full timeline of the New Orleans jail break can be seen HERE.
The latest person caught was Gary Price, who was found in an abandoned house in the area.
An employee of the New Orleans jail has been arrested following the break.
Sterling Williams admitted to shutting off water so that inmates could pull a toilet off the wall and escape. Three other employees have reportedly been suspended.
The prisoners were able to leave through a hole in the wall behind that commode. There was immediate speculation of it being an inside job.
“It’s almost impossible, not completely, but almost impossible for anybody to get out of this facility without help,” said Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson. That appears to have been the case.
Williams has been charged with 10 counts of principal to simple escape and one count of malfeasance in office.
The escapees wrote, “Too Easy” on the wall above their escape route. A reward of $20,000 is being offered in exchange for information leading to the arrests of the six remaining prisoners.
New Orleans authorities continue their search for the escapees.
