The Office star Angela Kinsey is poking fun at her character’s distaste for the color green in a humorous social media post. Kinsey, 52, shared pictures of herself getting ready to play tennis, dressed in a green sweater and matching skirt. “Wearing green. Scandalous. đ #sundaytennis #angelamartinwouldnotapprove,” she captioned the post. “Let’s play!” commented her former co-star (and on-screen love interest) Rainn Wilson. Kinsey is thriving in her 50sâhere are the things that make her happy.
Kinsey walks as much as possible for both physical and mental health benefits. “I’ve always been a big walker,” she told New Beauty. “I don’t know that I burn a ton of calories on my walk, it’s more of a stroll, but I do it every day. Physically, it’s a great thing for me to do, but, for my mental health, it’s a really wonderful thing. As corny as it sounds, looking at the flowers blooming, watching a cool-looking bird, or just seeing my neighbor’s trees growing are all things that make me feel connected to something biggerâand remind me that I’m not just in this small bubble that is my home.”
Kinsey likes to “sit in gratitude” to start the day. “Moms sometimes put themselves lower on the list of priorities,” she told Women’s Day. “My mom used to say to me ‘I just need to sit a minute,’ and that was just her moment to recharge. I like to sit on the back porch [in the morning] and have a cup of tea, and sometimes I get a whole 10 minutes. I just sit, and I don’t look at my phone; I just watch the day wake up a little.”
Kinsey’s favorite dish is her husband’s turkey soup, which is comforting, delicious, and nutritious. “My husband Josh and I make this turkey soup that is just 100 percent comfort food for me,” she told Bustle. “He made it for me just the other night â I’d had kind of a long day, then I came home and the stew was in the pot on the stove, and I just felt like I was home. I don’t know how to explain it. It’s like, home isn’t always a place, it’s also a feeling. I just walked in and he was ladling the stew into these bowls that my sister got us for our wedding that remind me of the bowls my grandma had, and I was just like, ‘I’m home, I’m home.’ The day melted away.”
For Kinsey, tech-free family dinners are a must. “Now, with my family, when we eat dinner together, there are no electronics, and there’s no TV, and there’s no phone,” she told Bustle. “Dinner is the time we all come together as a family and talk about our day. We play this game at dinner with our kids called Roses and Thorns, where you say what the best part of your day was, and what the worst part of your day was. It gets them all talking. I know it sounds silly to say, but you really have to fight for that family time, because life gets busy. I mean, we have two kids on two different soccer teams, one kid at play practice â weekday nights can be really busy. But we have found that on Monday nights, no one has an activity, so we all sit together and make that a time to reconnect.”
Kinsey’s reaction to being trolled about her age was to take the high road. “I feel very comfortable in my skin,” she told New Beauty. “I know the skin is a little looser than it used to beâbut it’s my skin. I’m really comfortable in it and I’m super thankful for all of these 50 years that I’ve had in it. I hope I get to have many more and I’m actually really looking forward to it because I feel very thankful in my life. I have a lot of gratitude in my heart right now, and I feel more at ease with myself than I ever have. That’s a wonderful place to be.”
