She said of ageing: “If you ask me what my relationship with myself was like now and the one I had when I was 20 or 30, I honestly prefer the one I have now.
“I take advantage of each decade, each moment, and I never think, ‘I was better before’.”
Penelope was signed by an agent at the age of 15.
She made her acting debut at 16 on television and made her film debut the following year in Jamón Jamón (1992).
Penelope is wed to Spanish actor Javier Bardem.
He was her co-star in her first breakthrough role in Jamón Jamón, as well as starring alongside her in Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
They were also both in the 2013 film The Counselor.
The couple started dating in 2007 and they married in early July 2010 in a private ceremony at a friend’s home in the Bahamas.
They have a son born in 2011 in Los Angeles and a daughter born in 2013.
Penelope also had a three-year relationship with Tom Cruise after they appeared together in Vanilla Sky, but it ended in January 2004.
