Mia Moretti Is Headed to the Crypto Bro’s Afters

Mia Moretti

This is SOUND ADVICE, a weekly destination for playlists curated by Interview’s friends, enemies, and lovers. Over the past few weeks, we’ve gathered playlists from Izzy Spears, LaQuan Smith, and Naomi Sharon. This week, it-girl DJ, Mia Moretti curated a playlist that, as she describes it, is an amalgamation of her past and present. After cutting her teeth DJ’ing megawatt events like the Barbie premiere and Dua Lipa’s Met Gala afterparty, Moretti is finally producing her own music. Her debut EP, TAMBOR, was released earlier this year, and the club remix of her single “ROSA,” a collaboration between Moretti, the legendary Colombian singer Totó la Momposina, and Miami-based DJ Malone, came out last week. To mark the occasion, Moretti took our Sound Advice questionnaire, sounding off on Taylor Swift, tech bros, and an iconic encounter with Joan Osborne.

Where do you dance? Somewhere dark, big, and with a good sound system. Brooklyn Navy Yard checks the boxes ✓✓✓.

What’s on your bedroom playlist? My ears ring all the time, in the bedroom I want silence. Not even talking. I know, what a buzz kill.

Wireless or bluetooth headphones? I need a cable, always, always, always, or there’s a delay.

What was your first concert? Joan Osborne at the Fox Theatre in Oakland. I smoked something that someone was passing around and immediately passed out. They carried me to the medic and when I came to I saw that I was backstage and Joan Osborne was standing right next to me about to go on. You couldn’t believe how cool I thought I was forgetting to be backstage beside Joan.

Do you play an instrument? I play midi!

Name your favorite artist nobody knows about: Darryl Pandy.

Who’s the Queen of Pop? Whitney, it’s gotta be Whitney.

What’s a music taste red flag? Taylor Swift.

Favorite album cover of all time: Eastern Soul by Tsvia Abarbanel.

What’s a song that reminds you of childhood? It’s a tie between “Hotel California” and “Desperado” by The Eagles.

What do you listen to right before a set? Usually I’ll go listen to the DJ before me to get a sense of what the crowd has been experiencing.

What’s your national anthem? “Sweet Juju,” the original, by Letta Mbulu.

The set is over. How are you getting home? I’m not going home, I’m looking for that tech bro’s party.
