Actress and singer Jordan Tyson chatted about starring in “The Notebook” musical on Broadway, where she plays “Younger Allie.”
The cast of “The Notebook” includes Maryann Plunkett, Dorian Harewood, Joy Woods, Ryan Vasquez, and John Cardoza, among others.

‘Younger Allie’ in ‘The Notebook’
On playing the “Younger Allie,” she said, “I love playing the young voice because that is when she is free and daring in a way. It is fun to play that free version of her.”
Working with John Cardoza
She opened up about working with John Cardoza as her on-screen love interest, the “Younger Noah” in the musical. “It has been the gift of my life, really,” she said. “It is both of our first times having a multi-year long working relationship.”
“We’ve been working with these characters together for two-plus years, and that’s the best thing ever. I am able to be vulnerable in a certain way, and John has given me the gift of safety, and a place to feel like I can try anything with. It is just so beautiful, and John is just a delight,” she elaborated.
“In the musical, we never mention age; it is sort of timeless,” she acknowledged.
For her portrayal as “Younger Allie,” Jordan Tyson was praised by her co-star, Tony winner Maryann Plunkett, for being reminiscent of a “young Judy Garland.”
Daily motivations as an actress
“My co-actors motivate me in a lot of ways. Knowing that my co-stars are showing up with their best selves no matter what is going on in the world or in their own lives is a big motivator. If they can do it, so can I.”
“Also, the audience reactions afterward, especially to know that we have touched them. Now, I can keep going because I know that somebody needs this,” she said.
The digital age
On being an actress in the digital age, she said, “It is crazy. I grew up with all of this already at my fingertips since I was young. I found that I need to choose where my attention goes and choose what is most helpful for me.”
“My job is so demanding with time and holding emotions. When I wake up in the morning, I know that I have to be open, healthy, and energized to make this show happen,” she said.
Advice for young and aspiring actors
For young and aspiring actors, she said, “Do what you want and don’t do what you think you should be doing. Listen to what you actually want to do aside from fame and accolades.”
“If you don’t enjoy what you are working on, your life won’t be enjoyable or recognizable,” she added.
Future plans
Regarding her future plans, Tyson said, “I plan on doing TV work as well as writing and releasing my album. Also, taking a vacation outside of this country. I want to remain open and malleable to whatever presents itself to me.”

On the title of the current chapter of her life, she said, “There is Always More…”
Superpower of choice
Regarding her superpower of choice, she remarked, “Perhaps I could fly, that way, I could go anywhere I want, and anytime I want. That would be nice, and it would be pretty peaceful.”
‘The Masked Singer’
When asked what she would dress up as (if she were to ever go on “The Masked Singer”), Tyson said, “While I don’t fully know how that show works, maybe I could dress up as a coffee cup or something. I would dress up as something coffee-related, such as a Moka pot.”
Favorite motto to live by
On her favorite motto to live by, she revealed, “Do less, listen, let and flow. That is a big one for me.”
Dialogue-heavy
When asked how she handles being dialogue-heavy, she said, “I used to be so nervous about memorizing, but I have previously done work that is way more intense in regard to this amount of dialogue and text, so I felt more than prepared to do this. I’ve also done plays, and those are solely reliant upon talking.”
Success
On her definition of the word success, Tyson said, “Doing work that I feel fulfilled by and proud of with people who I enjoy while also loving my life. Knowing that I stand with some of the choices that I make.”
