Jocelyn Hudon of “Chicago Fire” chatted about starring in the horror thriller “The Sound,” which will open theatrically in major cities and on VOD on June 27th.

The synopsis is: In the horror thriller “The Sound,” a world-class group of climbers is granted access to the Forbidden Wall, a mysterious rock wall previously closed for decades.

Among the climbers is Sean (Marc Hills), whose grandfather made an ill-fated attempt 63 years earlier.

During the group’s ascent, they come face to face with a malevolent force that quickly turns their expedition into a harrowing battle for survival hundreds of feet above the ground. Hudon portrays Dana.

Hudon on ‘The Sound’

On starring in “The Sound,” Hudon remarked, “It was awesome; it was so great. I loved filming in Nevada and meeting Alex Honnold; that was so cool. I wasn’t going to watch ‘Free Solo’ before working with him, but then, right before meeting him, I watched it so I was a maximum fan.”

Playing Dana

Hudon was drawn to playing her character, Dana, for several reasons. “Dana is no-nonsense and she likes rock climbing,” Hudon said. “Dana is strong and she hangs out with a bunch of rock climbers. I just thought she is great.”

Working with Brendan Devane as writer and director

On working with Brendan Devane as screenwriter and director of “The Sound,” she said, “Brendan is great. He is so thorough and detail-oriented. He is specific, kind, and easy to work with. Overall, he is just a great guy, and I love his dog. It was an awesome.”

Lessons learned from ‘The Sound’ screenplay

On the lessons learned from “The Sound” screenplay, Hudon reflected, “It was cool to do a movie that used a skill that I actually have. I love that it is based on rock climbing, which is so unique for a movie to focus on that. I don’t think this has been done before.”

“It felt so real. We had the ropes and real rock climbers; everyone trained for so long. Being able to use my skill of rock climbing for a movie is so great. That was really cool,” she admitted.

“Sometimes, having a bunch of random skills comes in handy,” she said with a sweet laugh.

Hudon on ‘Chicago Fire’

On starring in “Chicago Fire,” she exclaimed, “It’s a great show! We are going back in a month, and we are so excited for that.”

“Ironically enough, I shot ‘The Sound’ before ‘Chicago Fire.’ I filmed ‘The Sound’ in November and then I got ‘Chicago Fire’ the next February, so I’ve been banging out ‘Chicago Fire’ episodes,” she elaborated.

Hudon went on to praise “The Sound” as an “equally beautiful movie.”

The digital age

On being a part of the digital age, Hudon said, “Streaming is great, but I love watching movies in theaters. I just watched ‘Sinners’ in the movie theater and that was amazing. I love being in the movie theater especially when the seats recline and you crumple into a ball and watch a movie.”

“I also love streaming, and doing the same thing, but in my own bed,” she said with a sweet laugh.

“I am happy with whatever ways I can watch movies and TV. I like having the choice with all movie-watching platforms,” she acknowledged.

Advice for young and aspiring actors

For young and emerging actors, Hudon said, “One of the biggest things I learned is that instead of giving people what you think they want, just do your best version of your self and your own interpretation of someone else’s lines.”

“When you get auditions and scenes just think of yourself truly and what you would do, and don’t try to do something that someone else wants,” she observed.

“Just do the best thing you can do and whatever you can bring to that character, and if it works out, then it is meant to be,” she elaborated.

Stage of her life

On the title of the current chapter of her life, Hudon revealed, “Content and Happy… Part II.”

Hudon on being married to actor Jake Manley

In her personal life, she revealed that she is happily married to fellow actor Jake Manley.

“Jake is great! I love being married to him. We’ve been married almost four years now,” she said. “It is pretty crazy. We are best friends, we support each other, and we are having a good time.”

Superpower of choice

On her superpower of choice, she responded, “This is my favorite question. I worked at a camp, where I was a counselor, and I asked the kids this question. I told them that the best superpower — in my opinion — would be to transform into whatever you want.”

“You could transform into invisibility, super speed, or to whatever you want,” she added.

Success

Regarding her definition of the word success, Hudon revealed, “Success means just being happy with yourself.”

“When you are alone, and you realize that you are doing what you truly want to be doing, and living the life that you want to be living,” she explained.

“Everything else goes up and down. Success means being true to yourself and being happy when you sit alone with yourself. Also, the peace of mind that comes with it,” she noted.
