Jesy has struggled with body image and self acceptance since becoming famous. In a recent Instagram post she revealed that she is working on self-love and encouraged her fans to do the same. “I’ll never sit here and preach and say I love my body, because I don’t, but I’m slowly starting to just accept it for what it is,” Nelson wrote. “Sometimes I’m gonna put on weight, and sometimes I’m gonna go to the gym and lose it, either way girlies, one day we will be really old and look back at our pics and think ‘god I was actually banging, why did I worry so much.’ Anyway I’m rambling on now, but you’re all beautiful in your own ways, and I hope you all know that.”

Jesy encourages an active lifestyle and regularly adds new physical activities to her routine.  “Concentrating on something else can give your mind a break from worrying. Doing something active can release endorphins and remind you how amazing your body is. Because it really is amazing,” she told BBC’s Bitesize during an interview.

Boxing is Jesy’s go-to workout. “Boxing is my absolute favourite, I love it because it makes me feel like I’m not exercising,” she told Glamour. “This kind of boxing has many health benefits, because it constantly requires you to think, change your position, and change your posture,” physical therapist Linda Arslanian, director of rehabilitation services at Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women’s hospital tells Harvard Health.”You’re swinging your arms, moving the muscles of your arms and shoulders, increasing your upper-body strength. And when you’re in the boxer crouch with a wide stance, with your knees slightly bent, you’re strengthening your core muscles, back, and legs.”

Jesy tries to stick to an equation when it comes to exercise. If she eats more, she works out more. “When I start feeling rank, when I know I’ve indulged too much, then I start exercising,” she told Glamour. “We all love our junk food.”

Jesy prioritizes hydration. According to the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine men should drink about 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day and women about 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids.

Jesy, who left Little Mix in 2020, maintains it was great for her mental health. “I’m happy,” she told Glamour. “I’m hand-on-heart happy for the first time in years. I used to say I was – even up until recently – but not really feel it. Now I’m a 10 out of 10 happy – maybe nine out of 10 some days – but it’s just these past few months that I’ve actually felt it. The main reason for that is because I’ve taken control over my life and I’ve looked after myself. That’s the most important thing you can do and that’s what I’ve done. I know this feeling is real because my mum sees it, my sister sees it.”
