First HAUNTED MANSION Trailer Welcomes Foolish Mortals

If you’ve been on the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disney’s theme parks, you know what to expect. Mysteriously stretching portraits, ghosts galore, hot and cold running chills… some of us even know the opening greeting by heart. But if you’re an unsuspecting family moving into what you think is a lovely new home? Well, the presence of the supernatural would probably take you by surprise. The first trailer for Disney’s Haunted Mansion movie shows just that scenario when Gabbie (Rosario Dawson) learns a vanilla-scented candle will not chase the creepiness away.

So basically, Gabbie and her son move into their new haunted home and supernatural shenanigans greet them. She recruits help from a ragtag group who offer nothing but questionable advice. These new faces blend in with our favorite characters from the ride. We see Constance Hatchaway, the bride who has killed a number of her husbands. Then there’s the beloved Hatbox Ghost (Jared Leto), with his disturbingly removable ghost head. Plus, we see Jamie Lee Curtis as Madame Leota. However, she appears as a living human instead of the floating head we know from the ride.

Here’s the Haunted Mansion movie’s official synopsis:

Inspired by the classic theme park attraction, Haunted Mansion is about a woman and her son who enlist a motley crew of so-called spiritual experts to help rid their home of supernatural squatters.

We feel optimistic about the tone of the trailer. It seems to perfectly capture the “it’s scary, but it’s silly” vibes of the Haunted Mansion ride. Also? What a top-notch cast. The movie’s line-up includes LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Chase W. Dillon, Dan Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jared Leto.

In a statement, director Justin Simien said:

As a lifelong fan of the Haunted Mansion attraction, I’m beyond excited to share the teaser trailer for our new film adaptation featuring an incredible cast. Our team has worked tirelessly to create a scary, funny and cinematic otherworldly adventure for both new and die-hard fans to enjoy! I can’t wait for audiences to experience this big screen version of the iconic Disney attraction.

Haunted Mansion arrives in theaters on July 28.
