Last week, photos captured Liza being transported from a gray car to her wheelchair outside her Beverly Hills, California, home.

The Cabaret performer—the daughter of the late Judy Garland—returned home from a night out with friends wearing an all-black outfit, a full face of makeup, and dark locks in her usual pixie cut.

She seemed in good spirits for the evening, which came just two weeks after her 78th birthday.

Liza was last photographed last June leaving a restaurant in West Hollywood, California, around the time it was reported she needed around-the-clock care for her ongoing health issues.

In March 2022, the Arrested Development star worried fans with her frail appearance on stage at the Academy Awards.

She presented at the ceremony alongside Lady Gaga, donning black pants and a black jacket with bright pink sleeves.

Liza struggled with her words while announcing the Best Picture Oscar nominees, leaving Gaga to swoop in and help her.

The Edge of Glory singer assured Liza, “I got you,” to which the EGOT winner responded, “I know.”

Fans were heartbroken to see Liza in such poor health.

“Hate to see Liza in a wheelchair but how brave this woman is. She never gives up. Appreciate her now. Be thankful you’re alive the same time as her,” one fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Liza has long struggled with her physical health, including going through numerous stints in rehab for substance abuse.

She previously admitted that she turned to drugs to help cope with her mother’s death, which led to her Valium addiction.

The legendary star turned things around and has been sober since 2015.

But over the years, Liza has also battled other illnesses, including getting polyps on her vocal cords in 2018, causing her to have to rest her singing voice for 18 months.

She also underwent two hip replacements, a knee-cap replacement, and jawbone reconstruction surgery after falling onstage in 2007.

Additionally, the entertainer broke her wrists in 2013 and broke her lower back the following year after another bad fall.

Liza’s unfortunate luck didn’t stop there.

In 2000, she contracted viral encephalitis, inflammation of the brain’s active tissues caused by an infection or autoimmune response to a mosquito bite.

Encephalitis can cause seizures, confused thinking, and even problems with movement, sight, and hearing.

As a result, she was told she’d have to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair.

However, Liza has recovered well and even returned to performing in her solo show, Liza’s Back.

She’s had multiple other roles since, including starring in a 2013 episode of Smash and appearing in the 2019 documentary film Halston.
