The Weeknd Partners With Blue Bottle Coffee To Create Samra Origins

Blue Bottle Coffee, a specialty coffee and roastery company,  is partnering with The Weeknd to create Samra Origins, a new coffee brand that honours Ethiopian culture.

The brand and product line is named after The Weeknd’s mother, Samra, in honour of his family’s Ethiopian heritage. The Weeknd announced on Twitter it’ll drop starting on May 9.

Blue Bottle will also donate to The Weeknd’s XO Humanitarian Fund which provides aid to communities in need.

Ethiopia is known as the birthplace of coffee and is recognized globally for its expressive flavours and with Samra Origins, Blue Bottle and The Weeknd will curate a selection of flavours that encapsulate Ethiopian culture.

“Ethiopian culture is an important part of my identity and I’m proud to work alongside the Blue Bottle Coffee team to shine a light on Ethiopian traditions, values, and of course, coffee,” The Weeknd explained in a press release. “Growing up, I watched my mother perform Buna Tetu, a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. This sensory experience helped shape my understanding of community and taught me to always honor my roots.”

Samra Origins launches later this month when it will release a rare flavour in limited quantities. The coffee will be priced at $65 per 100-gram tin.

Those looking to get an early taste of The Weeknd’s new coffee line can sign up for a waitlist on the Samra Origins website.

The Weeknd is also busy with the upcoming release of his HBO show The Idol. He also recently executive produced Mike Dean’s latest album 4:23.
